Come experience Oriental dance as we retell
the myth of the Queen of the Underworld. Angelika Nemeth, AIEWA Dance,
Al Ahsan, Hipsteria and El Kabela combine forces to recreate the myth
of Persephone. Beautiful, young Persephone is abducted into Hades
by the God of the Underworld. She soon becomes entranced by the many
things she sees. Her mother is in anguish after the abduction of Persephone
and begins her own descent into the underworld, passing through the
seven veils, or layers of being; she gives up of herself to reach
Persephone. Join us as we use Bellydance, Turkish Gypsy, Egyptian
pop and the deeply hypnotic Tribal style of dance to draw the audience
into the world of Persephone, Queen of the Underworld. Tickets

9/10 Sep 2006: Turkish Gypsy and Turkish Pop workshops with Ferda
Bayazit, hosted by Hipsteria Bellydance Troupe - Beginning
from the 9/8 rhythm itself to the basic movements and gestures
of classic roman dance learned from Reyhan Tuzsuz. Reyhan, an
authentic rom living in a gypsy villiage in Ýstanbul and
internationally known and loved for her loving heart and her authentic
roman style, is sought after by all the best tours to Turkey and
all bellydancers travelling to Ýstanbul. After this review
of the basics we will move on to new movements Ferda has learned
Dr Serpil Mercanoðlu of Ýstanbul Technical Üniversite,
Sema Yýldýz (one of the great stars of the Ýstanbul
dance scene in the heyday of Ýstanbul fasýl clubs)
and from the gypsy night clubs of Taksim where she lives. Ferda
has the honor of being dubbed cingene ferda by Sema during a class.
After this full day of roman dance, you'll never dance the same
to 9/8 rythm again!
